Paige has been taken hostage and is kept tied up while negotiations with her husband proceed. To begin with, Paige is kept in a basement tied to a pole, her wrists handcuffed thereby making escape impossible, and gagged with duct tape. Later, she is taken upstairs and seated on a chair. She is still handcuffed, but now she is secured to the chair with zip ties, two around each leg and one around each bicep, attaching her arms to the chair back. Paige asks: "How much longer are you going to keep me here?" She tries to convince her captor that her husband can never pay the ransom because, contrary to appearances, he has no money, so he might just as well let her go. Tired of listening to her attempts to make him release her, her captor produces a ballgag and forces the ball into Paige's mouth, securing the strap tightly at the back of her neck. Now she is a great deal quieter. This does not stop her struggling, and after pulling on the zip ties for some time she manages to break one of the chair legs. Perched precariously on the three remaining chair legs, Paige sits and waits for her captor to return, hoping that he won't be angry with her for the damage she has caused.
