Amber is an investigative reporter who has been looking into the disappearance of young women from a particular town. She has been collecting information with the aid of her assistant at the newspaper (Candle) and she believes she is close to identifying who is behind the disappearances. After a night of rest, Amber is ready to take the investigation a step further. She goes through the the dining room to check her e-mail, hoping for an update from candle. Instead, she finds a message with a video attachment, and to her horror she sees that Candle has been taken hostage and is tied to a chair. Her gag is removed by her unseen captor and Candle tells Amber to pay the money to get her back (a ransom note has been sent to the newspaper where both women work). Candle adds a cryptic remark at the end of the recording just before she is gagged, hoping to convey a message to Amber. Realizing what her colleague was trying to tell her, Amber rushes back to the bedroom to dress. She then hears a sound in the house and takes her pistol from her bedside drawer. She carefully checks the house, but still an intruder manages to take her by surprise. After a brief struggle, Amber becomes his second victim. In time, she will learn so much more about what is really going on.
